comment Why “Git & GitHub” should exist
But which questions about G/GH aren't already on topic on SO?

Apparently the Swiss are better at manufacturing than they are at English grammar.

comment What is a *professional* pickup artist?
@Carpetsmoker: I know what a pickup artist is. That wasn't my question. My question was who gets paid to do that.

Seems to me those people are professional speakers/motivators, who talk about pickup artistry (much like how Robert Kiyosaki makes money talking about buying and selling real estate, rather than by buying and selling real estate). But maybe I'm being pedantic.

Would something like "Proposed Q&A site for students, teachers, and anyone involved in the process of learning or teaching a new spoken or written language." be more clear?

I'm all in favor of clear descriptions. I'm just not sure what ambiguity you're getting at. Can you clarify your concern?

ELL is about learning English. There is no site, to my knowledge, that is about the process of language learning, in general.

comment Would a site on Mormonism be redundant?
@keepaustinbeard: Catholics also use additional texts. And their idea of the afterlife includes Pergatory. But they are still within the realm of Christianity. And Cx.SE includes faith traditions that don't believe in any after life, universalists, and everything in between. Every tradition has differences. Hilighting two of them for Mormonism doesn't make Mormonism off-topic any more than any 2 random differences in some other denomination/sect makes them off topic.

comment Did Joel Spolsky just renounce “merging season”?
IMHO, SO is too large. Splintering is necessary. If I don't get an answer within 30 minutes, it will never get an answer. Even with a bounty. There's just too much noise, even with filtering, to get good answers to my questions. It's only real use, as a programmer, is when looking up historical answers.

@warren: shrug Maybe A51 is different, but everywhere else we're pounded about "One question per question!"

@warren: I'm not in the least bit defending this (completely undefined) proposal... I'm sure it will fail--the proposer hasn't even offered a single sample question!
