comment Would a site on Mormonism be redundant?
@keepaustinbeard: Catholics also use additional texts. And their idea of the afterlife includes Pergatory. But they are still within the realm of Christianity. And Cx.SE includes faith traditions that don't believe in any after life, universalists, and everything in between. Every tradition has differences. Hilighting two of them for Mormonism doesn't make Mormonism off-topic any more than any 2 random differences in some other denomination/sect makes them off topic.

comment Did Joel Spolsky just renounce “merging season”?
IMHO, SO is too large. Splintering is necessary. If I don't get an answer within 30 minutes, it will never get an answer. Even with a bounty. There's just too much noise, even with filtering, to get good answers to my questions. It's only real use, as a programmer, is when looking up historical answers.

@warren: shrug Maybe A51 is different, but everywhere else we're pounded about "One question per question!"

@warren: I'm not in the least bit defending this (completely undefined) proposal... I'm sure it will fail--the proposer hasn't even offered a single sample question!

@warren: Again, I'm not saying the discussion of "ideas" is good here; I'm saying you should narrow your post to a single issue--make the "ideas" part a second post.

@warren: Primarily I think addressing those would be best done in two posts. Secondarily, it's not clear to me that the proposal isn't (or couldn't be) about the execution and implementation of ideas.

@fbueckert: That's fine, but what place does that have in this post?

I agree with the first half of this post. The second half, starting with "And ideas don't matter..." seems like a tangential rant, and should probably be another post, or completely omitted. Let the proposal's sample questions speak for themselves.

comment A site for link only answers?
So you want to use a Q&A web site as an index to download website mirrors? That doesn't really make a lot of sense... but whatever. If you can get enough sample questions and people to commit to your proposal, I'll buy you a beer.

If the web site is down, it's presumably a temporary problem, making the questions all "Too Localized" and the answers all "Not an Answer"s... lovely.

comment Geocaching is a duplicate of The Great Outdoors?
Another approach would be to ask sample questions on the geocaching proposal which would be off-topic on The Great Outdoors.
