Proposal: Population Genetics & Genomics

The idea behind this community is to provide a place to discuss evolutionary questions over genomic and related data. So, we aren't a bioinformatics community. Of course, we have a lot in common with them from the data point of view. On the other hand, population genetics explores the effect of evolutionary forces on the genomic makeup of populations. So, questions about natural selection, speciation, nonadaptive evolution and similar are included in this scope. Bioinformatics provide analysis and parsed data, population genetics/genomics provide a theoretical framework to interpret such results/data.

There are lot of places discussing bioinformatics, sequencing and related. But very few discussing population genetics.

@Jarretinha: Thank you for the proposal and the participation. But this particular forum is to discuss issues with these proposals (problems with the definition, merging proposals, ideas for promoting proposals, etc). Most of the commentary in your post can be provided in the description of the proposal itself. As such, I am going to close this as [not a real question]. Good luck with your proposal! – Robert Cartaino Feb 12 '11 at 4:02
So why is this place called discussion zone? Where am I supposed do discuss my proposal? – Jarretinha Feb 12 '11 at 16:21
@Jarretinha: But your post isn't soliciting any sort discussion on an issue or asking any sort of question. It looks like a rehashing of the proposal description. As a matter of fact, this post makes the proposal sound interesting; you may consider adding more of its content to the the description of the proposal. So, if some sort of issue came up with the proposal, this Q&A forum would be the perfect place to discuss it. – Robert Cartaino Feb 14 '11 at 14:59
