Proposal: Miniature Wargaming

As per this Meta discussion on boardgames.stackexchange, most of our questions should be on-topic there.

Should we merge with board games, and get to the question asking right away?

I look forward to more miniatures questions on B&CG. – Pat Ludwig Apr 12 '12 at 0:50

I just checked on BCG meta, and miniatures gaming, painting and modeling questions are welcome. I also asked a couple of 40K Ork questions on BCG and received excellent answers.

Does this proposal have anything in it that would be unwelcome on BCG? If not, then there does not seem to be any reason to have a Miniatures Wargaming site in addition to BCG.

Wargaming is NOT the same as boardgames! However some boardgames can be part of wargaming.

Either boardgames need to change their name (unlikely) or Wargaming is a separate SE.

There was a meta-topic about changing the name on that SE. There weren't enough mini-gamers to convince them to change the name to "Tabletop" games. – CaulynDarr Jun 1 '12 at 17:27

"Either boardgames need to change their name (unlikely) or Wargaming is a separate SE." If the only reason you have to say that they should be separate SE sites is the name, then it seems clear that they should be merged. Names are more or less irrelevant, and since B&CG is still in beta, names are quite flexible. What matters is the content. And if all wargaming questions are on-topic for B&CG, then that's merging is entirely reasonable. – Nicol Bolas Jun 1 '12 at 18:13

I don't think there is really that much overlap between the two hobbies. In my opinion wargaming is actually a better candidate for a stackexchage, since it generates more enthusiasm. The problem is just getting those enthusiasts to notice the site.

Having both in the same forum will decrease the "specialist" effect. People heavily into wargaming are less likely to participate in a site where it's a sideshow than one where it is the main topic.

I wouldn't say that board gamers are less enthusiastic, and they also include CCG's over there. – CaulynDarr May 25 '12 at 17:19
@CaulynDarr that also means that the specialism is spread across BGs and CGs... – Pureferret Sep 18 '12 at 14:31
