Will this website be only about stocks or also fixed income, fx, real estate, etc?

investment is not only stocks!

Proposal: InvestOverflow

But in that case I guess it overlaps a bit "Personal Finance and Money"

Proposal: InvestOverflow

I think it would be too general.

It's getting a bit difficult already to determine which site handles what kind of request.

There are basically 2 sites already running:

The first one seems pretty basic to me, it was made for beginner and people really not familiar with finance in general. Besides, I saw an incredible number of topics from real estate to trading strategies, along with investment plans for children.

The second one is only dedicated to professional or high-level academics, as we discussed several times on meta. As it is related to quantitative finance, you might expect a lot of question regarding algorithmic trading, stochastic calculus, and so on, but it's not really the place to ask questions on, for example, technical trading.

Hence this proposal should be a bit in between the two, and InvestOverflow would basically include the two sites that already exist.

I really do like the StockOverflow idea, and I think it doesn't really matter if bonds are discussed in there. The name is part of the marketing of the BETA, and I guess this name is good for that matter.

As for the long-term, I think the three site should eventually be merged into one global site focusing on finance in general. The idea right now is to create 3 core communities for different types of question.

If we mix them up right now, it might drag potential users away (trivial/too advanced questions). Let's just constitute a nice community first.

The name is not amusing to me, but the topic would be interesting--I suggest making it broad (multiple investment types) rather than specific to one kind.

definitely, then we should also change the name – Fred Oct 25 '11 at 7:50

I think the name is fine. After all, Stack Overflow deals with more than segfaults and exceptions, doesn't it? – corsiKa Oct 31 '11 at 15:11

I think it should and I have added a proposal for Forex-specific site. The Forex market is very different from the stock market, please follow here:
