Proposal: 3D Graphics, Modeling & Animation

Aren't 3D questions already allowed on Graphic Design? They have a few questions about 3D and has tags for Blender, 3ds Max, Maya, SketchUp, and AutoCAD. Isn't this proposal a subset of GD.SE?

No, this proposal is not a duplicate of Graphic Design.

We have experimented with expanding and allowing 3D questions on our site, but it has been met with poor results. Our site does not attract the expert audience needed to answer many of the technical 3D questions we receive.

Recently, we've been re-discussing how we should handle 3D questions. This proposal is a direct result of that so we can try and construct an appropriate outlet to send 3D users.

For more information on this, check out these recent Graphic Design meta posts:

Graphics design is a odd place to park rendering and animation related topics. Hopefully a better banner name attracts right crowds. As of now 3D people are without a home. Stackoverflow regulary dumps them out and GD just mostly ignores them. It is important to have this under the stackexhange model somewhere.

  • general 3d is not wellcome at Blender
  • not home at stackoverflow
  • soon to be ejected from Graphics design
  • not really at home in superuser

The big issue tough is do we really need a tools how to? or is there some way to avod that?

Yes we need a tools howto as well as theory questions, they are intertwined. Tools how to also attracts traffic, even low quality traffic is worth something. – GiantCowFilms Apr 19 '15 at 13:22
