English Translation

About this proposal, I'm concerned about a lot of users following the proposal don't vote on example questions, and once the minimum followers is met, the proposal will remain at the same stage. Looking at the question list and it's vote count, it maybe will need 2.5X people (or more) to reach the 40 example questions with 10 net votes each.

I think this is mainly because the people which sign-up knows nothing about the process (of the Area51 site), sure this is true for other proposals, but more important in the non-english ones because people doesn't have information in their language about how this process works (remember this people speaks Spanish/French/German/Italian/Portuguese/etc and not necessarily English). I have no statistics or information about other proposals, because I'm only following the Spanish, maybe I'm wrong and I have no way to prove it, that's the reason I'm writing this question.

Personally, I'm willing to translate some texts, and I haven't done it until now because this will not have a official place to exist, and it will be like nothing was done, because nobody will notice its existence.

Is there a official place where I can send the translated texts so it appear linked in Spanish proposals, like the FAQ?

clarification: This is not a request to fully translate the UI of the sites, I think it will be made sooner or later anyway... is just about defining a way to provide official localized content on a per-proposal basis.

Cómo podemos lograr que las personas que siguen una propuesta en otro idioma también voten por las preguntas de ejemplo?

Sobre esta propuesta, me llama la atención que muchos usuarios que siguen la propuesta no califican las preguntas propuestas, lo cuál, una vez alcanzado el número de seguidores requeridos, dejará la propuesta en la misma etapa. Viendo la lista de preguntas, y sus calificaciones, probablemente se requerirá 2.5X personas, si no más, para llegar a tener 40 preguntas con 10 votos netos cada una.

Creo que esto es principalmente debido a que la gente que se apunta entiende poco del proceso, y eso es normal en general, pero es más acentuado porque la gente no cuenta con información en su idioma sobre cuál es este proceso. No tengo estadísticas o información de otras propuestas, ya que solo sigo la de Español... quizás estoy equivocado y no se cómo comprobarlo... es por eso que me gustaría que este tema se debata.

En lo personal, estaría dispuesto a colaborar traduciendo algunos textos... si hasta ahora no lo he hecho es porque no tendrían lugar "oficial"... y eso sería como no hacerlos, puesto que nadie se daría cuenta de su existencia.

Hay algún lugar donde pueda ponerse estos textos que aparezca vinculado en las propuestas en español, tal como las FAQ?

aclaración: Este no es un pedido para transladar completamente la Interfaz de Usuario de los sitios, pues esto será hecho tarde o temprano de todas formas, es solamente acerca de proveer contenido oficial de acuerdo al idioma de cada propuesta.

I would have translated "tarde o temprano" as "sooner or later". – Walter Mitty Sep 22 '12 at 10:28

I'm not sure if there's a way to do it within the Stackexchange application/context, but a publicly available translation of the Area51 FAQ would go a long way to fixing this problem.

My initial thought was a simple github.com repo with a markdown file with the translation (and possibly translations to other languages). The reasons being that it's open source/community editable and you can host it as a project blog (read:real website) (via pages.github.com)

I went ahead and made a repo/page to show what I mean: http://gorrillamcd.github.com/area51-faq-spanish/ (not finished translating yet). I'm not saying this has to be the solution, just trying to help. Also, spanish is not my first language, so if anyone did want to help with translating it, you are more than welcome.

It can be linked to from this proposal or even from the official FAQ if the Area 51 guys don't want to/can't add internationalization to certain parts of this site.

Update: @jachguate already translated the Area 51 FAQ. It's hosted on his blog.
